Good news! Good Peanut Crop!
December 11, 2012 by Emily
The other week I came across some good news I’d like to share.
The farmers in the South had a good year for peanuts. Particularly the peanuts that go into my all time favorite food EVER… peanut butter!!! I eat several tablespoons of peanut butter everyday. I start and end my day with peanut butter. I have for years.
Read about it here, here, and here.
The articles suggest that the exact opposite of this is happening:
For you non-Econ peeps out there, an increase in the supply of peanuts increases the quantity of peanuts. If the demand remains the same (aka people other than me don’t start hoarding peanuts) the price will fall. And as this article from NPR states, “There’s been some growth, especially in the Netherlands, UK, and Germany, Archer told me. But the EU is still a tiny, tiny market for U.S. peanut butter. The average European still eats less than one tablespoon of U.S. peanut butter in an entire year. That’s not nearly enough to make a dent in the glut.” Stay away from my peanut butter Europe. Although, you don’t know what you are missing!!!
Gotta love Family Circus!
Tell me what good news you’ve found recently.
Xoxo
Emily

Bad news for Nutella fans the price is going up. Might be by x4 here in the UK if the price of Palm oil goes up.
Yay! Best news of the morning
Best news of the week at least. Maybe best news of the month!!
Peanut butter prices have fallen. Being the Certified Penny Pincher that I am, I keep track of grocery prices at Jewel, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods on a spreadsheet so I never overpay for an item if I can avoid it (fun fact: there are actually a couple of things that are cheaper at Whole Foods than anywhere else. Who woulda thunk it?). This past weekend when I was updating my spreadsheet, I discovered that a 28 oz. jar of JIF Natural at Jewel dropped from $5.xx (I don’t remember the exact price) to $4.xx (again, don’t remember the exact price, but it was at least a 30 cent drop…possibly more). Hooray!
This comment made me creepily laugh on the EL today. I also follow prices… but not on a spreadsheet. Whole Foods DOES have some stuff that is cheaper!! I’m so glad you have concrete proof of the price decrease!
